Trigger-fish - Balistidae

Indentification marks: Triggerfish can grow as long as 70cm. Their body is flatterd at the side and high; the sideview is a rhombus. The very big head runs up conical; the eyes are put black widelyand very high; the small mouth is provided with strong teeth. The first back-fin is made of tree strong prickles, which get smaller to the back and have a block-mechanism. The second back-fin and the anus-fin are fin-sears.

Way of Life: Triggerfish swim not only horizontally, but also diagonally or even in avertical position. The daily-active animals sleep in caves or holes at night and cling to surfaces with the help of their first back-fin-pricle. The second prickel is based on the first one and lies in a small hollow. Now it is impossible to fold the first prickle back. An enemy, which finds the Triggerfish in his cave, is unable to pull him out.

Food: fish, crayfish, molluscs, corals, sea urchins and other kinds of echinoderm.
