Butterfly-fish - Chaetodontidae


 
Identification marks: Butterfly - fish can grow as long as 25 cm. The body is extremely flat and very high, the head relatively small. The tapering snout is ending in a small mouth. The first back - fins are connected with outcutted membranes. The chest - fins are always colourless and transparent. The name butterfly - fish comes from the magnificent colours.

Way of life: Due to their flat body they can manoeuvre skilfully, through narrow clefts, so they fit to the life in the coral reef.

Food: Plankton, coral polyps, cancer, worms, tentacles, fisheggs, algae.
