Trunk-fish - Ostraciidae
|
| Identification
marks: Trunk
- fish can grow as long as 38 cm. Body and head are
covered with a stiff, angular and suitcase like shell.
The shell is made of hexagonal bone plates, which are
lying beneath the scaleless skin. Way of life: Trunk - fish are slowly but very manoeuvrable. With their small fins they can revolve around in a standing position like a helicopter. Due to their shells trunk - fish haven't got gills. Lifting and lowering of the mouth-holebottom causes the watercirculation which is necessarily for the oxygen supply. Food: Little inveterbrates and algae. |
